Syrian, Iraqi Forces Meet at International Border amid Final Assault on ISIS

Alwaght- Syrian troops and their local allies managed on Wednesday to meet with the Iraqi forces on the international border in Deir Ez-Zor city amid a final assault on ISIS terrorists by two neighboring countries.

Al-Manar TV based in Beirut reported that the Iraqi army and their allies crossed into Bukamal, which lies on the Euphrates River and the border with Iraq.

The development came on the same day that Syria’s official news agency, SANA, reported that army forces and their allies have launched wide-scale military operations against foreign-sponsored Takfiri terrorists in the country’s west-central province of Hama in order to restore stability to al-Rahajan area and secure the road linking Hama to Aleppo.

A military commander, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the operations are meant to destroy the fortifications of Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, previously known as al-Nusra Front, terrorists.

He added that army units, backed by Syrian Air Force fighter jets, have eradicated a large number of terrorists, destroyed numerous terrorist command centers and struck many vehicles, which had brought militants from Idlib in order to reinforce Jabhat Fateh al-Sham’s ranks in the area.

Last Friday, Iraqi security forces, backed by Popular Mobilization Forces, declared they had fully liberated al Qaim city in western Anbar from ISIS Takfiri terrorists.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has congratulated the country's armed forces for liberating al-Qaim in record time.

The announcement of al-Qaim liberation came just as the Syrian Army has declared the entire Deir Ez-Zor city is fully liberated after the last positions of ISIS in it were eliminated.

The territorial losses by ISIS in Iraq and Syria effectively mark the end of the Takfiri group's so called caliphate.
