Aftershock of Failed Coup Hits Turkey’s Football Federation, Science Council

Alwaght- Turkish police stormed offices of the national science research council and arrested many people, broadcaster NTV said on Wednesday.

Turkish government has expanded the investigation into followers of the US-based opposition leader, Fethullah Gulen, whom it accused of masterminding last mid-July's coup attempt.

Many people were detained in the raid of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (Tubitak), NTV said.

In a similar development, 105 people were suspended from the Turkish Football Federation on Tuesday.

“Our federation deemed it necessary to suspend 94 people, including regional and nationally-ranked referees and assistant referees, regional refereeing committee members and national and regional observers,” a statement released by Turkish Federation read, while follow-up statement said a further 11 people had also been suspended.

“Our federation deemed it necessary to accept the resignation of a member of the representative council and suspended 10 representatives who were assigned to games,” the second statement read.
