ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei reaffirmed the country's commitment to transparency and compliance with international standards.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated on Saturday that the country’s nuclear activities are “transparent” and monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reiterating their peaceful intentions. He criticized recent remarks by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, who, at the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain, accused Iran of rapidly increasing uranium enrichment. Baghaei attributed Grossi’s comments to the "aggressive and unconstructive" stance of the US, Britain, France, and Germany, which recently pushed for an anti-Iran resolution at the IAEA Board of Governors.
Baghaei highlighted Grossi's mid-November visit to Iran, during which agreements were reached to enhance technical cooperation between Iran and the IAEA. However, he accused Western powers of undermining these efforts through political pressure. He reaffirmed Iran’s adherence to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement, ensuring that its nuclear program remains under IAEA supervision.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned on November 28 that ongoing Western threats to reimpose UN sanctions could escalate internal debates toward nuclear militarization—a path excluded from Iran’s strategic framework. Speaking in Portugal, Araghchi criticized the European Troika (France, Germany, and the UK) for their confrontational policies, which he said prompted Iran to activate thousands of advanced centrifuges as a countermeasure.
Araghchi reiterated that while Iran has the knowledge to develop nuclear weapons, such an option has never been part of its strategy. He confirmed that Iran currently has no plans to enrich uranium beyond 60%, emphasizing the need for fair and constructive negotiations to resolve the nuclear issue in a dignified manner.
