ALWAGHT- The Palestinian Hamas resistance movement stated that Benjamin Netanyahu's recent comments, asserting that Israel would not relinquish control over a strategic corridor along the Gaza-Egyptian border, reveal his desperation and responsibility for the failure to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
“Netanyahu's statements are the words of a desperate man seeking an illusory victory that he has failed to deliver to his audience after eleven months of his brutal war against our people in the Gaza Strip,” said Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas's political bureau, on Monday night.
He further stated that the Israeli prime minister and his war cabinet have not achieved any of their stated objectives in Gaza, except for committing numerous massacres in the besieged coastal region.
“Netanyahu is a war criminal who thrives on lies and deceives both his audience and the American administration. His recent statements are filled with lies that no one would believe. His comments confirm that he is the one blocking the exchange deal [for the release of captives in Gaza in return for Palestinian detainees held in Israeli prisons] and a ceasefire agreement [in the Gaza Strip],” Rishq emphasized.
The senior Hamas official placed full responsibility for the lives and safety of Israeli captives in Gaza on Netanyahu, accusing him of deliberately endangering them despite the resistance factions’ efforts to ensure their safety and humane treatment.
In Tel Aviv, Netanyahu is also facing heavy criticism for obstructing a truce deal due to his insistence on maintaining Israeli control over the Philadelphi Corridor and the Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza.
The Israeli opposition has condemned Netanyahu's claims that Philadelphi is crucial for Israel's war goals as “baseless political spin”.
