ALWAGHT- The Interior Ministry has announced that Iran will hold a runoff election on July 5 between Pezeshkian and Jalili, as no candidates managed to secure a 50 percent majority in Friday's poll.
The ninth update revealed Pezeshkian had received 10,415,991 votes and Jalili 9,473,298 out of 24,535,185 votes counted. Ghalibaf and Pourmohammadi garnered 3,383,340 and 206,397 votes, respectively.
Mohsen Eslami, spokesperson for Iran's election headquarters, announced the results on Saturday, with the votes counted from 27,938 out of 58,000 polling stations.
The polls closed at midnight local time on Saturday (20:30 GMT on Friday), concluding a 16-hour voting period.
The election was held following the death of President Ebrahim Raeisi and seven others in a helicopter crash in northwestern Iran on May 19.
Over 61 million Iranians were eligible to vote in the election.
Preliminary results suggest the election may proceed to a runoff, which Eslami stated would occur a week later.
