ALWAGHT- Diplomats from Iran and Russia have explored avenues to enhance their comprehensive strategic partnership between Tehran and Moscow.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko and Iran's Director General of International Legal Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, Seyed Ali Mousavi, met in Moscow to discuss enhancing the legal framework of bilateral relations in alignment with their comprehensive strategic partnership, as reported by TASS.
Iran’s interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani previously emphasized Tehran and Moscow's strong intentions to expand cooperation across various sectors. Speaking on June 12 during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, Bagheri Kani highlighted the historical ties and shared challenges between Iran and Russia, underscoring numerous opportunities for collaboration.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov affirmed Moscow's commitment to finalizing a comprehensive long-term cooperation agreement with Iran. He stated during a press conference after the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting that while the draft of the agreement had been agreed upon, it still awaited signature by the presidents of both countries.
He noted that the agreement would require adherence to formal protocols before it could be finalized.
He assured that once these stages were completed in Iran, the agreement could proceed. "As soon as the steps I mentioned are taken in Iran, we can move forward with this," he stated.
Separately, Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Russian President's office, confirmed during a press conference that work on the comprehensive strategic agreement between Russia and the Islamic Republic of Iran would continue.
Peskov acknowledged potential delays due to Iran’s upcoming presidential election and internal processes but emphasized that these would not alter the core direction of the negotiations.
He added that Russia aimed to further enhance its relations with Iran and accordingly strengthen the legal framework between the two countries.
