ALWAGHT- The Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly denounced Canada's House of Commons passing a motion to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as an official "terrorist organization."
In a statement released on Saturday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani criticized the proposal put forth by Canada's House of Commons to designate Iran's official military force as a terrorist organization, deeming it as both imprudent and hostile.
Kanaani vehemently condemned the decision, asserting that it contravenes established norms and principles of international law, including sovereign equality and non-interference in the internal affairs of nations.
He emphasized that this action constitutes an affront to Iran's sovereignty and national security. Furthermore, he characterized the move as a continuation of Canada's misguided approach over the past decade, influenced by the Zionist regime and certain marginalized factions lacking credibility or significance.
According to the Foreign Ministry’s website, Kanaani also urged Canadian parliamentarians to thoroughly examine the role of the IRGC in Iran to gain a comprehensive understanding of the pertinent facts. "The IRGC is a sovereign institution that has evolved from Iran's rich history and holds an official and lawful status defined by the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran," Kanaani emphasized.
He further highlighted that the IRGC, alongside other branches of the armed forces, bears the responsibility of safeguarding the nation's security and borders. Additionally, Kanaani stressed the role of the IRGC in promoting enduring security and stability within the region by combatting the menacing threat of terrorism.
"The action taken by the Canadian parliament, stemming from its lack of knowledge and wisdom, does not diminish the strength and legitimacy of the esteemed force rooted in the history of the Iranian people," the spokesperson remarked.
"Simultaneously, the Islamic Republic of Iran maintains the prerogative to respond appropriately and implement countermeasures against such actions that breach international law and run counter to the interests of the Iranian nation and government," Kanaani concluded.
