Alwaght- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned on Tuesday that the US seeks to partition Syria and create a quasi-state on the Euphrates River's east bank in northern Syria, Sputnik reported.
The Kurdish ethnic group makes up the majority of northern Syria's population and taking advantage of chaotic situation in the war-torn country has sought to set up an autonomous region there.
However, after Syrian government's forces victories against foreign-backed militants and terrorists and establishing control over most of the country's territories, Kurds decided to launch negotiations with Damascus.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), mainly comprised of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), recently have issued a statement announcing their readiness to negotiate with the central government and Turkey on the terms of a proposed safe zone under the international community’s supervision.
Reacting to the Kurdish political and military leaders’ decision to talk to Damascus, General Paul LaCamera, the commander of the US-led Western coalition in Syria threatened that if the SDF push forward with the plan to ally with Syria or Russia, the US will cut off all of its military aids to the militant force.
Sergei Lavrov also blamed Washington for prohibiting its allies from investing in the redevelopment of liberated parts of Syria that are controlled by the Syrian government.
"They are actively investing and are forcing their allies to pay for redevelopment of that part of Syria [Kurdish-dominated Northern Syria]. However, they are prohibiting their allies to invest in the restructuring of the infrastructure of the other parts of Syria which are controlled by the legitimate government," Lavrov noted.
The foreign minister's comments come amid remaining ISIS terrorists being surrounded and entrenched in a small area of Baghouz, the last ISIS-held village in Syria, by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces' (SDF).
