Alwaght- Rodney Martin, a former US Congressional staffer and political analyst, is of the opinion that the Saudi regime needs to invade poor nations like Yemen and fund terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS in the West Asia in order to ensure its survival, stressing that Al Saud is nearing its end.
“The Saudi Royals use the instruments of government to maintain themselves. Their aggression against Yemen and other states on the Arabian peninsula as well as sponsoring terrorism like ISIS is an extension of the Saudi Royal family’s desire to maintain their corrupt artificial monarchy, which is the most vicious and repressive regime on the globe, all with Western-US backing in exchange for Saudi Oil,” said Rodney Martin in an exclusive interview with Alwaght news website.
Martin further said that the Saudi aggression against Yemen was launched with the UN green light, noting that the bloc has always backed US and Israeli regime crimes in the West Asia.
He went on to add that the US has a primary goal in the West Asia and that is to exploit the threat from ISIS and al-Qaeda Takfiri groups in order to maintain control of the region’s oil resources.
The American political analyst said, “The US is heavily dependent on Saudi oil like a drug addict is dependent on its drug dealer, thus the UN hypocrisy regarding Yemen and Saudi Arabia is not surprising at all.”
What follows is the full text of Alwaght’s interview with Rodney Martin:
Alwaght: In February 2011, Yemeni people held mass rallies across the Muslim country and demanded the ouster of US-backed dictator Ali Abdullah Saleh. Saleh ruled for 33 years and finally stepped down in February 2012. Mansur Hadi took the helm of power after Saleh and, as a puppet ruler of Washington and Riyadh, followed the US agenda of the previous dictator in Yemen. Noticing this, the Yemeni nation headed for another revolution and people again poured into the streets of the capital Sana’a and demanded some reforms. Despite repeated promises, Hadi failed to address people’s needs and the Yemenis, with the help of the Ansarullah fighters, removed him from power. Mansour Hadi fled to Saudi Arabia in March 2015 and Saudi-led warplanes soon after started bombing Yemen. So far, around 2900 civilians, mostly women and children, have been killed. Meanwhile the airstrikes continued against the Muslim country despite the fact that Riyadh declared an end to them last week. It seems that certain Western countries in covert cooperation with their Arab stooges are once again hatching fresh plots in the West Asia. What lies behind the Saudi-led airstrikes on Yemen?
A: The West, especially the United States supported “democracy” efforts which were designed to destabilize as many nations in the Middle East as possible, all under the pretext of “popular uprisings” and “self-determination”. But in the case of Yemen, the West opposed a popular uprising and self-determination where the overwhelming majority of the people threw out tyrannical and illegitimate governments that were imposed on them by foreign interests. Former [fugitive] President Mansur Hadi’s term expired and he, like many Western-backed puppets, attempted to remain in office under Saudi tutelage. What is happening in Yemen should send shock waves around the world. The West via Saudi Arabia is telling smaller, poorer nations that they no longer enjoy self-determination and must be subjugated under leaders imposed on them by the West and its regional satellites such as Saudi Arabia.
Q: The Saudi-led air campaign on Yemen is a blatant violation of international regulations and the rights of a sovereign state as a member of the United Nations. However, the UNSC adopted a resolution earlier and imposed sanctions on the revolutionaries and didn't condemn the Saudi aggression which has so far killed thousands of people. What's your perspective on that?
A: The United States and Britain have used the UN to advance their foreign and economic policy objectives since the UN inception. For example, US and Israeli crimes against humanity and genocide are regularly sanctioned by the UN or the US exercises its veto or engages in economic blackmail to advance its objectives. The US is heavily dependent on Saudi oil like a drug addict is dependent on its drug dealer, thus the UN hypocrisy regarding Yemen and Saudi Arabia is not surprising at all. The US has no druthers bombing and killing innocent people in countries like Yemen in its pursuit of resources.
Q: The Saudi monarchy claims its air campaign against Yemen is an issue of national security. What do you think?
A: The Saudi monarchy, like the former Shah of Iran is nothing but a stooge that sits on an artificial throne created and propped up by the United States and Britain. There was never any legitimacy for the Saudi monarchy. Their claims of national security are in reality self-preservation. The Saudi Royals use the instruments of government to maintain themselves. Their aggression against Yemen and other states on the Arabian peninsula as well as sponsoring terrorism like ISIS is an extension of the Saudi Royal family’s desire to maintain their corrupt artificial monarchy, which is the most vicious and repressive regime on the globe, all with Western-US backing in exchange for Saudi Oil.
