Sharon Offered ’Hand of Friendship’ to Dead Saudi King

Sharon Offered ’Hand of Friendship’ to Dead Saudi King

Sharon sent a letter to Saudi King Abdullah.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon sent a letter to Saudi King Abdullah offering a hand of friendship in 2005.

Alwaght- Israeli regime-based Jerusalem Post has revealed a letter sent by former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to dead Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz in November 2005.

“In light of Saudi Arabia’s central status in this region, and your Majesty’s political wisdom and foresight, we believe that your country can make an immense contribution to the success of this [peace] process,” the paper quoted Sharon who was referring to the in reference to the so-called peace process with the Palestinians.

The letter was apparently handed to Moshe Peretz who delivered it to then Saudi King Abdullah.

On December 3, 2005, the king’s brother-in law-called Peretz and said the letter was personally delivered. However, three weeks after the letter was sent, Sharon suffered his first stroke.

It was also written three months after the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

“We believe that our recent disengagement from Gaza and Northern Samaria introduced a new and historic opportunity to advance the peace process,” Sharon stated.

“It is our hope that Saudi Arabia, under your Majesty’s strong leadership, will exert its power and influence to encourage the moderate forces in this region and advance the prospects of peace, stability and prosperity,” he wrote.

He further specified that Tel Aviv sought to establish friendly relations with Riyadh.

“I offer my hand in friendship and hope to have the opportunity to cooperate and work with you personally to advance our mutual goal of peace. I look forward to receiving your response.”

Earlier this month, Yitzhak Levanon, who served previously as the Israeli consul in Boston and ambassador in Egypt, called the letter an “important historical document,” and said that it confirms that there were ties with the Saudis.

Today, long after the two passed away Israeli-Saudi ties are coming to the surface despite anti-Zionist rhetoric by the Saudis. Rapprochement of ties between Riyadh and Tel Aviv are not the product of a sudden overnight shift in regional policy, their recently publicized cooperation has marked a new stage in Saudi’s approach toward the occupying regime. Indeed, the two forces are joining hands against the axis of resistance.
