Alwaght- Not so long after of Hamas Movement's victory in Israeli regime's bloody war on the besieged Gaza and also Tel Aviv’s failure in accomplishing the project to replace the Muslims in Al-Quds (Jerusalem) neighborhoods with the Jewish settlers, the Palestinians in West Bank and Gaza have grown outrageous with President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority (PA)'s compromising policies. It seems that the Palestinian people have come up with a certain conclusion that any policy accompanied by flexibility and compromise to the Israeli side is a failure and yields no results. Rather, the policy of Resistance not only brings them no defeats but also shakes the Israeli regime.
On June 25, Hebron residents in the occupied West Bank during the funeral of Nizar Banat, outspoken critic of Abbas, called for the ouster of PA's president. Banat was killed by the Palestinian Authority security forces in detention after they raided home of the 44-year-old activist in the town of Dora in Hebron last Thursday, arresting and beating him. He later succumbed to wounds at a hospital.
Citizens' disgust with Abbas compromises to Tel Aviv
The situation in the occupied territories after the end of the 12-day Israeli regime's war on Gaza has developed in such a way that the vast majority of citizens are dissatisfied with any pro-compromise approach of the Palestinian Authority, and their aversion to the policies of Mahmoud Abbas has raged so high that only the president's resignation can alleviate their fury.
In fact, for years, the policy of compromise and negotiation between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli regime has not yielded any results. From the beginning of the 1990s, the negotiations and so-called peace process only helped Tel Aviv buy time to expand territorially and politically. While Abbas talks about peace, the Israelis with peace of mind continued their occupation and settlement projects. Just unlike Abbas, Hamas in the 12-day war last month showed that resistance can impose defeat on Tel Aviv and spares no effort to defend the Palestinian liberation ideals.
Murder of Banat, as a political activist opposed to normalized ties between the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli regime, sparked outrage among the Palestinians. Hamas, in a statement, blamed the PA for the activist's death.
West supports Abbas to mend Palestinian Authority's damaged image
In parallel with the people’s legitimate condemnation of the Abbas' policies, Western countries have taken steps to back him and double the pressure on Hamas. An example is the US President Joe Biden's promise to Abbas on May 21 that Washington will help to reconstruct Gaza that was destroyed during the Israeli bombardment.
This policy should be read as part of the West's open support to the PA against Hamas. In other words, the Western countries intend to rebuild the PA's legitimacy and acceptance. Some Arab countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Oman have embarked on the plans to provide Gaza aids via the Palestinian Authority in line with the Western agenda.
Along with support to Abbas, the West is pushing to sanction and pressure Hamas at international levels. For example, a year after Germany blacklisted Hamas, on June 4 Berlin banned Hamas symbols including its logo and flag. The law was approved by the Christian Democratic Union and Social Democratic party which together form the ruling coalition. The coincidence of such measures with the protests of Palestinian citizens and their demand for the resignation of Mahmoud Abbas bears witness to the West's patronage to this compromising Palestinian circle.
