Holy Shrines of Shia Imams Red Line of Iran: President Rouhani

Alwaght- Iranian President, Hasan Rouhani, called the holy shrines of Shia Imams in Iraq and Syria, the red line of the Islamic Republic of Iran and stressed that Iran will not tolerate terrorist attacks on the revered sites.

Delivering a speech at the Interior Ministry building in Tehran on Saturday, Hasan Rouhani said: “The issue is not whether they are based in Iraq, Syria or other countries. We will not tolerate attempts by terrorists to assault the holy shrines of the Household [of Prophet Muhammad] and will stand against them”.

“When we say red line we mean it… It means we will not allow Baghdad to be occupied by the terrorists or the religious sites such as Karbala or Najaf to be occupied by the terrorists,” he added.

President Rouhani in the ceremony held in commemoration of martyrs sated that martyrs have taught us to protect neighboring Muslims and holy shrines whenever they are in danger.

Iran’s President also referred to the families of the Iranian martyrs, and said, “Your children showed that they would defend Iran, the Muslim land, and the Household’s shrines no matter where they were.”

Islamic Republic of Iran has sent military advisers to Syria and Iraq to help the two countries defend themselves against the terrorist’s attacks on holy shrines and their country. Some of the advisers have been martyred in offences of terrorist attacks in Iraq and Syria.
