Russia Accuses US of Provoking a Crisis in Asia through Taiwan

Russia Accuses US of Provoking a Crisis in Asia through Taiwan

ALWAGHT- The United States is using Taiwan to incite a major crisis in Asia, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko stated on Sunday, reaffirming Moscow’s support for China’s position on Taiwan.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko criticized the United States for violating the "one China" principle it officially recognizes by strengthening military-political ties with Taiwan and increasing arms supplies under the pretext of maintaining the "status quo." Speaking on Sunday, Rudenko claimed the US aims to provoke China and create a crisis in Asia to serve its own interests, according to Reuters.

The report did not specify the contacts Rudenko referred to. China views Taiwan as part of its territory, while the US remains Taiwan’s primary international supporter and arms supplier, despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties.

In September, President Joe Biden approved $567 million in military aid for Taiwan. Russia, aligning with China, condemned US actions as deliberate attempts to escalate tensions around Taiwan and extend its influence in Asia.

China and Russia have deepened their cooperation, declaring a "no limits" partnership in February 2022 during President Vladimir Putin's visit to Beijing, shortly before Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine. The US State Department has yet to comment on Rudenko’s remarks.
