Araghchi: Indirect Iran-US talks suspended due to regional circumstances

ALWAGHT- Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that the indirect talks between Iran and the United States, facilitated by Oman, have been paused "due to the specific regional circumstances."

"Oman has consistently played a key role in resolving regional issues, and in the case of Iran and the US, it has actively facilitated communication and laid the groundwork for talks," said Araghchi during his visit to Muscat on Monday.

He noted that Oman’s intermediary efforts, known as the “Muscat process,” had enabled indirect discussions between Tehran and Washington.

However, Araghchi emphasized that due to the current regional crisis, there is no basis for continuing these talks at the moment. Tehran will decide on resuming negotiations once the crisis subsides.

When asked if he delivered any message to the US during his trip, Araghchi clarified, “No messages were sent to other countries during this visit.” He added that he had communicated Iran’s position to regional officials, urging them to relay it to all parties involved.

Araghchi reiterated that both the US and European nations, along with regional states, need to understand Iran’s clear stance on the current developments. While Iran is prepared for conflict, he stressed the importance of diplomacy as the only way to prevent escalating tensions and avoid a major regional crisis.
