Alwaght- Selahattin Demirtas, Co-Chairman of (HDP), has described Monday’s explosions at party offices in the southern Turkish provinces of Adana and Mersin as an attempted “massacre” of leading figures in the pro-Kurdish group.
The HDP accused turkey regime and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of being politically responsible for the attack due to raising “provocations” and “tensions”, pointing the finger at the harsh language recently used by President Erdoğan, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, and other ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) figures.
The party stated that six personnel had been injured in the attack on its Adana headquarters, while turkey official news agency AA.com claimed that three people were injured at two Simultaneous explosions that.
According to Selahattin Demirtas, twin explosions follow more than 66 attacks against the pro-Kurdish party campaigning for the June 7 general election began in April.
Speaking at an evening rally in Mersin, Demirtas said: “Today, such places and time were chosen in Mersin and Adana, meaning they wanted to kill our candidates and senior management.”
Demirtas said party officials gathered each morning in the offices to hold coordination meetings, saying it was a blessing no-one had been killed.
"[Some] powers supported by the government attempts to prevent our party’s development and election campaign. The political responsibility of these attacks is on President Erdoğan, the prime minister, and other AKP officials,” read the statement released by HDP soon after the attacks on May 18, Hurriyet Daily News reported.
Statement accused "dark forces supported by the ruling power" of trying to obstruct their election campaign.
It said "political responsibility" lay with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Davutoglu and other cabinet members who "single out” the HDP as a “target".
Gunmen attacked the HDP’s headquarters in Ankara in mid-April. Nobody was injured but bullet holes were visible on the building.
In November, the Ankara Provincial HDP Assembly Member Ahmet Karatas was critically injured after being stabbed near the party’s headquarters in Ankara.
The HDP is set to play an important role in the upcoming June 7 Turkish general election. For the first time it aims to pass the 10 percent election threshold and gain seats in parliament, AA reported.
