UK Police Corrupted By Sex And Drugs: Report

UK Police Corrupted By Sex And Drugs: Report

Alwaght-A newly emerged report has shown a rise in the number of British police officers who deal drugs or abuse their power for sexual gratification, as Press TV reports.

Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary’s (HMIC) review of corruption in policing in England and Wales highlighted a report by the now-defunct Serious Organized Crime Agency that was concluded 18 months ago, and only made public on Thursday.

“The assessment highlighted corruption for sexual gratification is a major concern,” The Telegraph quoted the HMIC as saying on Friday.

The report is thought to include incidents where officers had made inappropriate sexual passes at vulnerable victims, as well as police who had insisted on “favors” from prostitutes.

It added the number of reported cases has been on the rise since 2009.

“Abuse and supply of Class A and B controlled drugs is occurring more frequently among a greater number of forces than was reported in 2010,” it added.

The study was carried out during a period of three years and was based on intelligence reports into police forces throughout England and Wales.

Official HMIC figures

The study revealed that in the 12 months to the end of March 2014, 406 investigations into sexual misconduct by UK police were carried out.

Also during the last two years, 9,000 alleged police corruption investigations were carried out, 5,700 of which led to “no further action”.

Further Findings

The report also showed that a majority of police forces are inconsistent in the way they deal with corruption investigations, and that only half of forces have an “effective counter-corruption plan”.

It also showed that one in 20 cases examined required referral to the Independent Police Complaints Commission for further investigation, while no referral was done.
