Malaysia Submits Application to Join BRICS

ALWAGHT- Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced on Sunday that Malaysia has applied to join BRICS.

Malaysia has submitted an application to join the BRICS organization to Russia, the current BRICS chair, expressing a willingness to participate either as a member country or a strategic partner, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced on Sunday.

BRICS is a significant economic alliance of Global South nations, originally founded by Russia, China, India, and Brazil, with South Africa joining later. The group has recently expanded, adding several new members.

To mark the beginning of 2024, BRICS officially welcomed five developing nations: Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia.

Last year, the BRICS alliance experienced substantial growth, fast-tracking various initiatives, including de-dollarization plans and its first expansion bid, which has now been realized.

The addition of these five countries is set to have significant geopolitical impacts, supporting BRICS's multipolar objectives.
