Attacking Iran Aid Ship Triggers War in the Region: Iranian Top Commander

Alwaght- On Tuesday, in an interview with Arabic-language news channel al-Alam, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri warned Saudi-led coalition as well as US that attacking the Iranian Cargo ship which is carrying the much-needed supplies to Yemen will ignite the flames of a war in the region.

"Flames of a war may not be put out or brought under control," Jazayeri stressed.

On Monday, from the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, Islamic republic of Iran sent its Nejat ( Literally: Rescue) cargo ship to Yemen which is carrying 2,500 Tonnes of humanitarian aid including food and medicine supplies as well as basic requirements.

IRNA quoted Admiral Hossein Azad as saying on Tuesday, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s 34th naval group, which is currently in the Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandab Strait, is responsible for supporting Iran’s humanitarian aid cargo ship.”

The Alborz destroyer and the Bushehr logistic ship, which are both currently on a 90-day mission, symbolizing Iran’s navel might provide security of the ship, Jazayeri stated.

A US defense official, US has information that the Iranian aid ship does not contain weapons, Pentagon spokesman Colonel Steve Warren told reporters on Tuesday that the cargo ships’ escort is absolutely unnecessary, whereas earlier on Tuesday, Saudi Arabia has violated a ceasefire in Yemen immediately after it was in place.

Despite receiving permits from Omani and Yemeni aviation officials to cross into Yemen’s airspace, in another flagrant violation of international law, on April 28, Saudi Arabia forced an Iranian cargo plane carrying medical aid and foodstuff for people in Yemen to return by striking violently the runway of international Sanna airport.

Meanwhile, Iran is set to send more ships and planes of humanitarian aid to war victims in Yemen.

However, more than six weeks of deadly aerial attacks on Yemen by Saudi-led coalition- on March 26 and without a UN mandate- have killed more than 3,000 people and some 6,200 others injured.
