Alwaght- The Iraqi forces have uncovered a mass grave in a school in the northern city of Mosul where ISIS had beheaded over 100 civilians.
A mass grave was found in the School of Agriculture on the outskirts of Hammam al-Alil, a town that was recaptured from ISIS on Monday, the Iraqi army said in a statement.
"Gangs of ISIS militants continue to commit crimes against our people," the statement said.
Special teams are being sent to the site to investigate the killings, the statement said. Beheadings and mass graves have become a hallmark of the ISIS terror group.
Iraq's federal police forces and army troops attacked the ISIS-held town of Hammam al-Alil located about 30 kilometers south of Mosul on Saturday. The city is considered the last significant settlement on the Tigris River before Mosul.
The Iraqi army along with volunteer forces and Peshmerga has launched a comprehensive operation to liberate Mosul from ISIS, on 17 October. The forces have closed in on the mainland of the Mosul while some units of the Special Forces have entered the city itself.
The city is considered the last stronghold for ISIS and liberating it could mean a victory over the terrorist group in Iraq.
