Iran Signals Willingness to Renew Nuclear Deal Independently of US Action

ALWAGHT- Tehran has announced its readiness to proceed with reviving the 2015 nuclear deal, indicating that it will not rely on the US, which has shown little political will to restore the agreement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Tehran will begin talks with European countries without waiting for the United States. He stated that Iran will not agree to any deal until its interests are safeguarded. Araghchi noted that negotiations with the US may be complicated by the upcoming presidential election and affirmed that, if necessary, Iran will proceed with European discussions.

He criticized Europe's ineffective sanctions and emphasized that past sanctions against Iran's nuclear program were unsuccessful, leading to negotiations. Araghchi also addressed European concerns about Iran allegedly supplying weapons to Russia, suggesting that respectful dialogue is needed. He reiterated Iran’s stance against providing military aid to Russia and expressed optimism about the JCPOA framework for a new agreement, provided there is mutual understanding with Europeans and other JCPOA members.

Negotiations have been stalled since August 2022, with Iran attributing the delay to the Biden administration's reluctance to address issues stemming from former President Trump's withdrawal from the deal.
