Alwaght-Iranian cities witnessed mass marches marking the 36th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution that toppled the Pahlavi-regime. The largest annual nationwide rally started in the capital city of Tehran on Wednesday morning.
Large crowds poured into the streets carrying pictures of Imam Khomeini and Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei as a gesture of their loyalty to the Islamic Revolution, and chanting anti-US and anti-Israeli regimes slogans.
Moreover, millions expressed their support to their government’s policies regarding the negotiations on Iranian nuclear program. The allegiance of Iranian nation to their revolution proves that continued pressure and the rising cost of sanctions did not change Iranian public opinion, especially concerning the nuclear program.
The sanction, by the US and western governments, were officially meant to put pressure on the Iranian nation, in order to cause civil unrest. Ultimately, western official assumed, the civil unrest would lead people to force their country to change its policies, and bow to their demands. These sanctions covered various economic fields, including importing of vital goods, exporting oil, banning the Iranian national bank, freezing billions of dollars of Iran's assets.
However, what sanctions did is that it intensified the framing of the nuclear project, by the Iranian nation, as part of their prestige and nationalism sentiments. Iranians have been always proud of their country’s technological development as well as their nuclear program. Moreover, US-sanctions strengthened the resentment of Iranians to the US governments, and made these governments non-trustworthy in their opinion.
Additionally, although the Iranians lacked any international supporter in certain circumstances along these 36 years, people continued to back their Revolution and their successive governments.
Iran had always stressed that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. Today President Hasan Rouhani reaffirmed that Iran wants constructive relations with the world, stressing that the Islamic Republic will continue to protect its interests and remain committed to the Revolution’s principles and ideals.
Addressing the massive gathering of people, President Hassan Rouhani said: "We pursue a win-win agreement, according to which Iran would guarantee the transparency of its peaceful nuclear activities within the framework of international law, and in return the opposite side should put an end to inhumane and illegal sanctions against Iran. This will benefit both sides.” Rouhani affirmed that the Israeli regime have made all efforts to scuttle the negotiations.
The rallies of the 36th anniversary of Islamic Revolution are considered as a boost for the Iranian government on the negotiation table. Negotiators would benefit from the Iranian nation’s support. Moreover, these rallies may change the calculation of the other side, the US and the western governments, to change their behavior towards Iranian nation by lifting the sanctions, respecting their right of having a peaceful nuclear program, and ending their illogical and bullying behaviors during negotiations as Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stressed on Sunday. The Supreme Leader restated that the Iranian nation will not tolerate bullying, excessive demands, and illogical behavior. Iranian nation assured their Supreme Leaders words today through their presence in the nationwide rallies.
In addition to the annual theme of renewing support for the revolution and Islamic establishment, this year ralliers protested against the sacrilegious moves made against Islam, including the cartoons of Prophet Mohammad published by the French Weekly Charlie Hebdo. Protestors also expressed solidarity with the regional nations' revolution against their tyrant rulers as well as their campaign against Takfiri terrorism.
As Iranians celebrated the collapse of the US-proxy Mohammad Reza Pahlavi the emergence of the new era on this day 36 years ago, they hope to celebrate securing their legitimate rights, in the near future.
