Alwaght- Lebanon says it won’t accept threats from the Israeli enemy or any other side, the country's defense minister has warned.
“Lebanon from the far north to the far south is standing to protect its territories,” the Lebanese Defense Minister Yacoub Sarraf said as he toured the southern borders on Sunday.
“Lebanon does not succumb to threats, and we confirm its sovereignty over its land, water and oil resources,” Sarraf underscored.
He indicated meanwhile, that his visit to the Southern border region is an affirmation of Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Sarraf’s tour came after he took part in a mass service at the ancient Monastery of St. Mamma in Deir Mimes, which was destroyed by the Israeli enemy during the July 2006 war.
The comments come amid rising tensions rise after the Israeli regime provoked Lebanon over Beirut’s offshore oil and gas exploration projects.
The current tensions started last week when the Israeli regime voiced objection after the Lebanese government announced tender for projects in two of its 10 offshore blocks in the Mediterranean Sea.
The comments by Sarraf came after Israeli regime warplanes yesterday violated Lebanese airspace over the Shebaa farms which are located between Lebanon and Syria.
According to Lebanese security sources, the warplanes carried out reconnaissance missions at medium altitude over the villages of Arqub, Marjayoun and Hasbaya all the way to the eastern and western Bekaa Valley.
Additionally, a commander in the Lebanese Army said in a statement that three Israeli warships violated Lebanese territorial waters near Ras Al-Naqoura on three occasions. The violations are being monitored in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), it added.
