Armed Resistance in West Bank: Grounds, Necessities

Armed Resistance in West Bank: Grounds, Necessities

Alwaght- While Israel is grappling with consequences of recent Gaza war, the regime is facing new challenge that can shatter its dream to eliminate the Palestinian cause. In recent days, some news resources in West Bank reported gunfire directed at the Israeli forces in Jenin. Reports say that every Israeli raid on Jenin and its refugee camps is responded with Palestinians armed response, indicating the Palestinian youths are struggling to restore the game-changing armed resistance in West Bank after decades of disarmament.

The Israeli military published a statement, saying that its special military unit, dubbed Yamam, came under gunfire when it launched a raid on Jenin.

The armed resistance caused the Israeli settlers to evacuate a settlement, Avitar, in Jabal Subaih, south of Nablus in West Bank for the fear of Palestinian attacks.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper wrote that the settlers left Jabal Subaih separately so as not to create a picture of victory for the Palestinians. Hazem Qassem, spokesman to Hamas, suggested that evacuation of Bita village in Jabal Subaih once again demonstrated the resistance power to foist Palestinians' will on the Israeli occupiers and force them to retreat in any region.

Resistance choice popular with people furious at Palestinian Authority's treason

Safa news outlet, citing Palestinian residents of that region, held that the youths have concluded that "reactivation of armed resistance to the occupying regime" is the only way out of the current tough conditions.

This approach gains further traction among the new Palestinian generations who think that setting heart on the Western and Arab promises for results from the negotiating tables not only bears no fruits but also spurs the Israelis to violate Palestinian rights and occupy their lands more. Such a view has largely destroyed the trust in pro-Western Palestinian officials who no more find any listening ears among the angry youths. The recent weeks' protests in West Bank against the Palestinian Authority and chanting "the people want the regime to collapse" was an example of the growing disappointment with efficiency of the compromising leadership in West Bank.

On the other hand, the recent Gaza war, which marked the patriotic approach of Hamas to defend all Palestinians throughout the occupied territories, greatly increased its legitimacy and popularity. The victory in the 12-day war worked like injection of new spirit in the body of the Palestinian people, who were outraged by the betrayal of some reactionary Arab regimes to normalize relations with Tel Aviv and the treacherous silence of some other Arab governments. Palestinians have come to the conclusion that the compromising Palestinian Authority leaders are incapable of defending their rights in the face of occupying Israeli regime.

Inspired by the record of the Gaza resistance victories and Israeli defeats, the public opinion in West Bank more than ever want the Palestinian region to be armed. If the Palestinian Authority stops its intelligence and security cooperation with Tel Aviv, West Bank arming will be faster and less challenging than the under-siege Gaza.

Fourth intifada; a product of Gaza-West Bank unity

Recent Palestinian developments indicates that Palestinians in  Gaza, West Bank, and even 1948 territories, are calling for a new intifada against the Israeli occupation, violation, and vandalism. Apparently, a new intifada with new coordinate covering West Bank, Gaza, and 1948 territories in the Israeli depth will face the apartheid regime with its biggest challenge since its foundation seven decades ago. Amid massive economic, social, political, and regional challenges that Tel Aviv is faced with, an armed intifada, backed by Hamas missile strength, can push the occupying regime to brink of collapse sooner than the predictions.
